Gears Of War: E-Day Release Date, Platforms And No PS5
The reveal of Gears of War: E-Day was impressive, but also creates a conundrum for me and others who fit my gaming profile. Let me explain. I loved Gears of War 1 and 2. I played it as much as any non-sports title from 2006-2009. However, I've since become almost exclusively a PlayStation gamer.
What's the problem? Gears of War: E-Day will not launch on PlayStation 5 and we don't know if we'll ever see it on that platform. Let's talk video games.

The Coalition locked Gears of War: E-Day for October 6, 2026, with the game arriving day one on Game Pass, the same launch-day approach Microsoft leaned on for Forza Horizon 6 . Pre-orders are live now, spanning a $69.99 Standard Edition, a $99 Premium Edition that adds roughly five days of early access, and a Collector's Edition. An open beta weekend opens August 6, with pre-order buyers and Game Pass Ultimate members getting early access.
That date drops E-Day into a crowded release window alongside Grand Theft Auto 6 , handing Xbox a marquee exclusive to anchor its holiday lineup.
Is Gears Of War: E-Day Coming To PS5?
In short, there is no PS5 version of Gears of War E-Day and I wouldn't hold my breath for one to come later.
Xbox CEO Asha Sharma confirmed the console exclusivity at the June 7 Showcase , reversing earlier signals after a PEGI listing had pointed to a PS5 version. E-Day will instead land on Xbox Series X|S, PC and Xbox Cloud Gaming. The move stands out because Microsoft recently shipped Starfield, Indiana Jones and the Gears of War: Reloaded remaster to PlayStation.
It follows the pattern of recent Xbox-and-PC exclusives like Subnautica 2 , which also skipped Sony's console with day-one Game Pass. PlayStation loyalists at least have God of War: Laufey and other first-party exclusives to anticipate instead.
What Is Gears Of War: E-Day About?
E-Day is a prequel that takes place 14 years before Gears 1. The story covers the first three days of Emergence Day and users will control Bravo Squad: Marcus, Dom and the new characters Mags Carter and Lucas Reyes.
The entire campaign unfolds in Kalona, a single city on Sera, as it collapses under the first Locust assault. The Coalition is leaning hard into horror, with sudden emergence holes, overwhelmed civilians and a younger Marcus and Dom forging their bond in the chaos rather than after they are already legends. Tai Kaliso, a returning fan favorite from Gears of War 2, also factors into the story.
What's New In Gears Of War: E-Day's Gameplay And Co-Op?
The first thing that jumps out when watching the gameplay clips that are circulating is the environmental detail and impact on gameplay. While those things are new, the classic sliding and cover usage seems to be returning intact.
There is something special about a gunfight in Gears of War games. It's different.
Built from the ground up on Unreal Engine 5, E-Day targets 4K and 60 frames per second with ray tracing in the campaign, plus up to 120 fps in multiplayer. The full slate revealed in the E-Day Direct includes four-player online co-op, two-player split-screen, a 4v4 Versus mode and a new 12-player Horde Siege. Fittingly for an origin story, Tai's arc even explains how the Lancer earned its iconic chainsaw.
