After adding the privacy display to the Galaxy S26 Ultra— comfortably the phone’s best feature —the Galaxy S27 series is looking at another major hardware jump with a fresh display upgrade, according to new information.

With the likely inclusion of a bigger battery powered by silicon-carbon tech , and an entirely new "Pro" model, Samsung is preparing to shake up its flagship line in 2027.

Samsung Updates Galaxy S27 Series With New Display Tech

According to ET News , the Galaxy S27 Pro and Galaxy S27 Ultra will use M16 OLED panels supplied by Samsung Display. This is the first time this latest-generation material has been used in a Samsung phone.

The standard Galaxy S27 and S27+ are also getting an upgrade, moving from the M13 panels used since the S24 series to M14, the same material that debuted in the Galaxy S26 Ultra this year. This is the first material set upgrade for the base and Plus model in three years.

The new M16 tech means better power efficiency, which should result in longer battery life, improved peak brightness for outdoor visibility, more accurate colour reproduction and a longer display lifespan before it starts to fail.

M16 isn’t exclusive to Samsung’s own phones. The same panel material, made by Samsung Display, is currently inside the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, alongside Google’s Pixel 11 series. A two-generation leap was always going to happen considering Samsung’s closest rivals are already using M16.

What Else Is Coming To The Galaxy S27

When you put everything we know so far about the Galaxy S27 together, it very much looks like Samsung is planning a big upgrade for its new flagship phones. Prices are going up everywhere, so tech companies are making handsets more premium to feel worth it.

For example, the lineup will expand to four models for the first time. Next year’s Galaxy Unpacked will unveil the Galaxy S27, S27+, S27 Pro and S27 Ultra, with the Pro sitting between the Plus and Ultra without an S Pen.

The S27 Pro and Ultra are also getting a significant camera redesign, moving away from Samsung’s signature floating ring layout to a unified horizontal camera island.

That redesign is likely about making room for built-in Qi2 magnetic charging, which would allow external batteries and accessories to snap directly onto the phone without a case for the first time.

On battery life, the Galaxy S27 Pro and Ultra will use silicon-carbon technology that bumps them up to 5,200mAh and 5,700mAh respectively. That is a big jump from the S26 Ultra’s 5,000mAh cell, which has remained unchanged since the Galaxy S20 Ultra in 2020.
