The Galaxy S27 Ultra may kick off a year of huge battery upgrades in 2027. Samsung already debuted a high-density battery in the Galaxy Z Fold 8 , marking the first time the company has strayed into the silicon-carbon tech its Chinese rivals have been playing with for the last 18 months .

No Fold 8 phones have exploded so far (at least, at the time of writing), so now Samsung is turning to the Galaxy S27 Ultra with a plan to upgrade the battery size to unprecedented levels—for Samsung—next year, according to new regulatory findings.

Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra Gets 3C Certification

Spotted by GSMArena , China’s 3C certification body has listed the Galaxy S27 Ultra with a cell rated at 5,534mAh, which will almost certainly be marketed as approximately 5,700mAh when the phone launches. This backs up an early leak that pointed to the exact same battery sizes .

That’s a 700mAh increase over the Galaxy S26 Ultra’s 5,000mAh cell, which is the same capacity Samsung has used in every Galaxy S Ultra since the S20 Ultra in 2020.

The new Galaxy S27 Pro has also been certified, with a rated capacity of 5,087mAh that is likely to be advertised as around 5,200mAh. That in itself is interesting because the S27 Pro, which sits below the Ultra in Samsung’s lineup and doesn’t include an S Pen, will carry a larger battery than Samsung’s current flagship: the S26 Ultra.

So if it wasn’t clear already, these are serious battery upgrades that suggest the company’s entire 2027 lineup will get a boost. The one area the battery stays static is charging speed, with both models are confirmed for 60W, the same as the Galaxy S26 Ultra.

Galaxy S27 Ultra Release Date Hinted At In These Certifications

China’s 3C certification typically appears three to six months before a device reaches market. The S27 Pro and S27 Ultra appearing in 3C this week, alongside a separate BIS certification in India also spotted this week, means Samsung is on track for a typical January or February launch.

The Galaxy S26 series appeared in 3C certification in October 2025 and launched at Galaxy Unpacked in January 2026. If the S27 follows a similar pattern, a January or February 2027 Unpacked event is the most liekly.

That’s not exactly a surprise. Barring the slightly delayed Galaxy S25 launch, Samsung typically sticks to the first two months of the year to unveil its new tech. But two regulatory certifications in the same week at this stage of the calendar suggests Samsung is in final pre-production testing.

What Else Is Coming To The Galaxy S27 Ultra

It’s not just a new battery. The S27 Pro and Ultra are getting the new M16 OLED display panels that were deployed in the iPhone 18 Pro . That should mean longer battery life, improved peak brightness for outdoor visibility, more accurate colour reproduction and a longer display lifespan before it starts to fail.

Ice Universe has also confirmed the new horizontal camera island design, likely driven by the need to accommodate built-in Qi2 magnetic charging. And the lineup is expanding to four models for the first time, with the S27 Pro joining the S27, S27+ and S27 Ultra.

The S27 Ultra is shaping up as Samsung’s most significant hardware upgrade in years. Hopefully that doesn’t mean a generational price jump too.
