Galaxy S27 Release Date: Samsung Confirms New ‘Pro’ Months Early
Ahead of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 release , Samsung has quietly confirmed the existence of the long rumoured Galaxy S27 “Pro” model via a regulatory filing. That will expand the entire Galaxy S27 lineup to four models, but how exactly will the new Pro be different?
Samsung Confirms Galaxy S27 Pro Via GSMA Database Filing
Documents discovered in the GSMA database by Ovrplus (via SamMobile ) confirm that Samsung's next Galaxy S series will include a Galaxy S27 Pro (model number SM-S957B/DS), sitting between the S27+ and S27 Ultra in the lineup. The full S27 family confirmed in GSMA records now includes the Galaxy S27 (SM-S952U), Galaxy S27+ (SM-S956U), Galaxy S27 Pro (SM-S957B/DS) and Galaxy S27 Ultra (SM-S958U).
The GSMA database is a mobile industry verification system, so an entry here means a device is genuinely in development and being tested. This is as close to confirmed as a smartphone lineup gets before an official Samsung announcement.
What We Know About The Galaxy S27 Pro
The Galaxy S27 Pro is expected to function as a more compact alternative to the Ultra, flagship hardware in a small-hand-friendly design. Based on current leaks, it’s being built around a 6.47-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display, which would make it smaller than the Ultra’s panel while retaining high-end specs. Expected hardware includes a Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro chipset, 12GB or more of RAM, and a 5,000mAh battery.
For the camera, rumors suggest that the Pro will sport a 200MP main camera, a 50MP ultrawide and a 50MP telephoto with 3.5x optical zoom. That puts it close to the Galaxy S26 Ultra, which has a 5x optical zoom.
What will be interesting to see is if Samsung’s new display jewel-in-the-crown, the Galaxy S26 Ultra’s privacy screen , makes it into the Galaxy S27 Pro. We can safely assume it will be in the Galaxy S27 Ultra, but it doesn’t look like the privacy display will make it to the Galaxy Z Fold 8 series, which is Samsung’s most expensive phone. So will Samsung use it on a (slightly) lesser Galaxy S27 Pro, in both specs and price, or keep it exclusive to the Ultra model?

Why Does The Galaxy S27 Pro Exist Now?
Samsung has had four-tier lineups before in other product families, but never in the Galaxy S series. The addition of a Pro tier suggests Samsung is targeting a buyer who finds the Ultra too large or too expensive, but finds the standard or Plus models too much of a compromise on specs.
That’s a real gap. There’s no current option between the $999 S26+ and the $1,299 S26 Ultra . A Galaxy S27 Pro at something like $1,099 to $1,149 would address that directly. Also, with the RAM crisis forcing Apple’s prices upwards , alongside several other Android manufacturers, a cheaper version of Samsung’s Galaxy S Ultra makes sense in this expensive new world.
