Future Fitbit Wearable Teased In Google Pixel Family Image
A Google Pixel phone advert appears to have revealed the design of an upcoming fitness tracker likely to be either a Fitbit or a new member of the Pixel family.
The advert was published by Google Australia, and spotted by members of Reddit.
It depicts the recently-announced Pixel 11 phones alongside a Pixel Watch and a kind of smaller-screen wearable that has not yet been unveiled.
Being sat among these other devices suggests it may be part of the wider Pixel family. But it would still be labelled a successor to the Fitbit Charge series by tech fans, if it’s not called a Fitbit Charge 7 outright.
Compared to the current Fitbit Charge 6 , this band has a cuter-looking super-rounded display border — like a more cuddly take on the Pixel Watch. This is absolutely not a screen-free tracker like the Fitbit Air , with what is most likely an OLED display.
What Is The Future Of Fitbit Wearables?
This could mark Google overwriting yet another piece of Fitbit’s identity with its own branding. The last major moves in this area was when the Google name was inserted into the Google Fitbit Air, and when Fitbit Premium was rebranded to Google Health Premium.
A near-full overwriting of the Fitbit brand could be interesting, if sad, move with this next wearable, though, most notably in its software. The rendered images used in these adverts do not tell us enough to judge whether the band uses a lower-power software system like a Fitbit Charge 6, or the much more battery-intensive Wear OS.
You don’t tend to see wearables as petite as this “Pixel” band use Wear OS, because they would struggle with battery capacity. There is of course a helpful technology available that can help with this issue, the silicon-carbon battery.
Mobile device manufacturers outside of China have been relatively slow to adopt this tweaked lithium ion design, potentially due to its lower expected charge cycle lifespan, in early design iterations at least, but it can bring massive milliampere-per-cubic millimeter benefits.
For example, the Oppo Find X9 Pro Android has a 7500mah battery despite being no larger than the 5115mAh Google Pixel 11 Pro XL.
I think it is more likely this wearable will use a lower-power software platform, as almost all other watches of this style to date last significantly longer off a charge than this design with Wear OS could ever hope to. 7-14 days is quite normal for this style of lower-bulk fitness watch.
Some Reddit users have even suggested the Fitbit like watch may be a pure AI fabrication. This would seem a foolhardy choice from Google, given it already has to juggle enough claims of misinformation from the use of its Gemini AI system.
