Floyd “Kid Austin” Schofield scored a unanimous-decision win over Lucas Bahdi on Saturday night in Chicago to become the new WBA lightweight champion. The fight was a bit closer than one of the judges’ scorecards indicated.

The 116-110 and 115-111 scores were accurate and feasible, but the 119-108 scorecard was ridiculous. Bahdi scored a knockdown and was in the fight most of the night. Schofield was the rightful winner, but that gap is insane. Let’s talk boxing.

Schofield vs. Bahdi Key Facts

The fight took place at Wintrust Arena. Schofield entered 19-0 with 13 knockouts and was ranked No. 1 by the WBA, with Bahdi at No. 2, per Bleacher Report .

The WBA title was vacant after the organization moved former champion Gervonta Davis to “champion in recess” status amid his ongoing legal issues, per Yahoo Sports . Schofield needed a second try at the weigh-in, coming in at 135.6 pounds before making 135.

Schofield’s boxing acumen and athleticism were the difference. Bahdi was the bigger puncher, but he couldn’t zero in on his opponent enough to make a difference.

Bahdi entered the fight 20-0 with 15 knockouts. He hadn’t fought since outpointing Roger Gutierrez in a title eliminator in August 2025.

Schofield’s Detour on the Way to a Title

Schofield’s road to a belt included a detour. He was scheduled to challenge Shakur Stevenson for the WBC lightweight title on Feb. 22, 2025, in Riyadh, but was hospitalized four days before the fight and removed from the card, per The Ring . Josh Padley took his place.

What’s Next for Schofield

The next step for Schofield is to look at one of the top fighters at 135 and maybe 140 pounds, but after this performance, there is a legitimate question as to how he’d do against someone like William Zepeda or Abdullah Mason . Zepeda’s pressure and Mason’s speed and power could be too much for Schofield.

If Schofield has a major flaw, it is his defense. He can be irresponsible with head and hand placement, which left him open for some shots. What happens if this comes up with Zepeda? How would Schofield handle that pressure? We’ll likely see because both men are promoted by Golden Boy.

In any case, this was an entertaining fight to top off a DAZN show.
