Fantasy Football Week 2 Waiver Wire: 5 Best Pickups
Attacking the waiver wire after Week 1 is important. If you add the right players now, they can provide a significant boost to your fantasy team in the long run. With that in mind, let’s focus on five players to consider adding out of the gate who are still available in the majority of Yahoo leagues.
Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Targets For Week 2
1. Devaughn Vele, WR, New Orleans Saints (8% rostered)
The Saints scored 30 points in their Week 1 loss to the Lions. Tyler Shough put up another monster stat line, throwing for 410 yards and three touchdowns. Vele was one of the beneficiaries of his performance, catching seven of nine targets for 69 yards and one touchdown. Jordyn Tyson (hamstring) is on IR and opposing defenses already have their hands full in coverage with Chris Olave. That leaves Vele to not only receive additional targets, but he should get many of them against lesser cornerbacks. Until Tyson is healthy, Vele should be rostered in all 12-team and deeper leagues.
2. Deebo Samuel Sr., WR, San Francisco 49ers (49% rostered)
The 49ers have high hopes for rookie second-round pick De’Zhaun Stribling, but he sprained his ankle in Week 1 and is expected to miss at least one month. Ricky Pearsall (knee) is already out for the season, so the 49ers are thin at wide receiver behind Mike Evans right now. Samuel had a significant role in their first game, catching six of seven targets for 48 yards and a touchdown, He also turned his lone carry into 12 yards. He is a versatile player who thrived in San Francisco before a disappointing season with the Commanders in 2025. Not only is he a viable fantasy option for a favorable Week 2 matchup with the Dolphins, but he is someone who could provide value for at least the next few weeks.
3. Caleb Douglas, WR, Miami Dolphins (12% rostered)
The Dolphins entered the season with questions at wide receiver. Malik Washington led the team with eight targets in Week 1, but Douglas was right behind him with seven. No other wide receiver finished the game with more than two targets, which is encouraging for Douglas moving forward. He made the most of his opportunities, finishing with five receptions for 94 yards. As the Dolphins look to develop their young players, Douglas has the potential to be among their leaders in target share this year.
4. Kaelon Black, RB, San Francisco 49ers (27% rostered)
Even with Christian McCaffrey in the fold, Black received 14 carries against the Rams on Thursday. He showed upside, finishing with 65 yards. His workload could have been a combination of a couple of things. It was the first game of the season, so the 49ers might want to ease McCaffrey into action. Also, the game was played in Australia, which is not an easy travel situation for a veteran like McCaffrey. It would be a surprise if Black receives 10+ carries on a weekly basis, but he showed enough that he should at least be added by all managers who drafted McCaffrey. If McCaffrey were ever to be injured, then Black would immediately be worth starting in just about all leagues.
5. Adonai Mitchell, WR, New York Jets (16% rostered)
The Jets selected Omar Cooper Jr. in the first round of the draft, but he suffered an ankle injury in the first quarter of Sunday’s win over the Titans. He did not return to the game and could miss additional time. If he is sidelined, that could result in additional targets for Mitchell. Mitchell showed his big play upside again, catching all three of his targets for a total of 60 yards against the Titans. For his career, Mitchell has never finished a season with an average depth of target of fewer than 13.6 yards. In deeper formats, he could be a viable option in Week 2 against a Packers team that allowed three touchdown passes to Vikings backup quarterback Carson Wentz on Sunday.
Vele, Samuel, and Douglas are three players to target on the waiver wire who can be viable fantasy options for multiple weeks. Black could shine if McCaffrey misses time, while Mitchell can help fantasy managers in deeper formats.
