Elon Musk’s net worth topped $1 trillion Monday morning as stocks for his companies SpaceX and Tesla climbed after the stock market opened, restoring the controversial tech mogul’s trillionaire status after he first hit that milestone in June.

Forbes estimates Musk’s net worth at $1 trillion on Monday, which is up by $30.6 billion over Friday, the last day the stock market was open.

The surge cements Musk’s status as the richest person in the world, with Amazon leader Jeff Bezos in a distant second place with a net worth of $371.5 billion.

Musk previously became the world’s first trillionaire in June after SpaceX first began trading on the Nasdaq, though he lost that status days later as stock prices for SpaceX and Tesla slumped.

His net worth has neared the trillionaire mark in recent days as SpaceX and Tesla shares have rallied, with Tesla’s third-quarter deliveries beating analyst expectations last week and helping to bump Musk’s net worth by $61 billion on Friday alone.

Tesla’s stock price continued to rise more than 1% Monday morning, while SpaceX’s stock price more dramatically went up by more than 5% Monday morning to a share price of $167 as of 10:30 a.m. EDT, enabling Musk to regain his trillionaire title.

SpaceX’s gains come after analysts at Morgan Stanley suggested the stock was undervalued and as its Starship successfully was launched into orbit last week for the first time, as well as after Musk suggested Sunday that SpaceXAI would rebrand to “SpaceXSI” based on President Donald Trump claiming “artificial intelligence” should now be called “super intelligence.”

Musk appeared alongside Trump and other AI leaders at the White House last week as the president rolled out a new “accord” on AI. The document imposes some guidelines to help ensure AI is developed responsibly, but Trump has described it as being only “morally binding”—and at roughly 300 words, the accord does not impose any significant guardrails or detailed regulations on the industry. Trump also signed an executive order last week ordering the government to now refer to AI as “super intelligence,” which Musk has endorsed, writing on X on Sunday, “No more AI,” and arguing “SI” is “better.” The trillionaire said on X that SpaceXAI, a subsidiary of SpaceX that operates chatbot Grok, would be renamed to “SpaceXSI,” though the company has not appeared to make any formal efforts to rebrand as of Monday morning.

Musk will soon be in the media spotlight in a different way when the documentary “Musk” hits theaters this month, with the film rolling out in New York and Los Angeles on Friday before debuting nationwide Oct. 16. The documentary, which has a runtime of nearly four hours, takes a harshly critical perspective on Musk, early reviews suggest, with NPR describing director Alex Gibney’s take on the trillionaire as “a confidence man who will deceive, gaslight and fabricate to get what he wants.” Musk has already lashed out against the documentary, calling it a “false film” and describing Gibney as a “horrible human,” and has threatened to sue the filmmaker for defamation over claims made in the film. The Hollywood Reporter suggested last month that Universal Pictures was having “cold feet” about releasing the film internationally given Musk’s significant influence, but the studio maintained in a statement it has “always been committed to releasing this film, and our plans haven’t changed.”

Musk’s net worth jump also comes days after his former girlfriend Shivon Zilis revealed on social media Friday she had been “let go” from their relationship, writing, “It’s hard to go from in love to let go in a week with no warning, but that’s just how it is sometimes.” Zilis and Musk have four children together, and Zilis—an executive at Musk’s Neuralink— testified in court in May that the two were solely friends and colleagues before they became romantic partners, with Musk initially donating his sperm to Zilis so she could have their first two children via IVF.
