With Dragon Quest already celebrating its 40th anniversary , it seems the much-beloved role-playing game series has managed to reach 100 million lifetime game sales.

In a rather lovely video with series creator Yuji Horii (shown below), he reveals that the Dragon Quest series has amassed over 100 million sales in its lifetime.

This is by no means a trivial feat, and it’s not like these games have been crazily expensive to make, unlike the Final Fantasy series.

For reference, the Final Fantasy series has sold over 200 million units worldwide , which is mostly down to the fact that Dragon Quest hasn’t caught on internationally until quite recently.

Which brings me to the recent HD remakes of the original Erdrick Trilogy, which I strongly recommend .

Not to mention Dragon Quest XI , which is also getting updated and re-released on the Switch 2 in a few weeks.

All in all, Dragon Quest has done very well for itself, and its burgeoning international popularity only bodes well for the future.
