‘Destiny’ Has Inspired A 10-Year Plan For ‘ARC Raiders’
ARC Raiders released a major patch today as it gears up for its Frozen Trail major update coming October 8. Now, there’s a new, extremely long interview from GamesBea t with Aleksander Grøndal, executive producer of ARC Raiders at Embark, that touches on almost every aspect of the game, including one that’s inspiring its future: Destiny , and of course its sequel, Destiny 2.
Despite ARC Raiders not even being a year old yet, releasing on October 30, 2025, Embark already has grand plans for its future. Here, Grøndal talks about Destiny as an inspiration for the way forward:
“There is a plan for how this is supposed to evolve over time. We see ARC Raiders as a long journey. We said it before. We want ARC Raiders to become a 10-year journey. That means things need to happen in the game, much like what Destiny did really well with how their narrative progressed over time. We want to do that as well, but in a way that works for ARC Raiders of course.”
Destiny made it past its 10-year plan, which surprised many, as calling your shot for a decade of content seemed like a lofty goal. It nearly made it to 12 years before earlier this summer, Sony p ulled the plug on Destiny 2 after falling playercounts and rising costs. It was one of the most brutal shutdowns in the industry, with not even minor updates to come or any new IP projects announced, and the erasure of a playerbase in an era where Sony has produced almost nothing but failed live service games, or future failures, by the looks of it. Some fans, however, hold out hope for a reversal or a sequel.
In the case of ARC , Destiny’s narrative continuation is cited as what they’re looking at for the next ten years. Destiny spend its first decade or so on a Light and Darkness saga, dealing with various threats that culminated in a final showdown in The Final Shape. The problem became that there was a lot of drop-off after that happened, and even what could have been the start of an interesting narrative dried up before it had time to go anywhere.
Is a 10-year plan even possible for a game like ARC Raiders , one many note has lost the vast majority of its players in the last year? I think it’s important to remember the context here. Embark never expected anything close to the success of the ARC Raiders’ launch, and they got all that cash from initial purchases up front, even if players have departed. There is nothing wrong with maintaining a core community if costs are not sinking a studio deep into the red, and there are plans for content to keep hold of players or get some to return. The Finals is a good example here, Embark’s other shooter that went a bit under the radar, but retains a remarkably consistent playerbase to this day after its release in 2023. There’s no reason ARC can’t do the same, but yes, a decade is certainly a decent length of time in the current state of the industry, and really for any game.
