This season of Dana White’s Contender Series has been one for the record books. We’ve seen tons of fighters earn contracts and at least a handful of highly memorable fights. The latest episode was no exception and White was impressed. For just the second time in the show’s history, White gave contracts to the winner and loser of two fights on the card. Let’s talk MMA.

The Dasuyev-Ortega and Guaylupo-Connor fights were instant classics. Fans will be talking about both of those scraps through the week. We’ve seen White send both guys from one fight earlier this season, but to do it for two fights is almost unheard of.

Six of the 10 fighters left with contracts. Norbert Novenyi Jr. was the only winner who did not get one, despite headlining and taking a unanimous decision over Theo Haig, and White told him to come back another time. Damian Piwowarczyk, a training partner of Jan Blachowicz, opened the card by stopping Emilio Quissua at 4:55 of the first.

While Guaylupo and Connor and Dasuyev and Ortega put on a great show collectively, the real star of this episode was Marcos Degli. His standing, one-armed rear-naked choke gave us flashbacks of Jean Silva’s finish at Noche UFC.

This season has been stellar. Some have suggested White hasn’t been picky enough when deciding who gets a contract. We’ll see if that’s true as some of the winners began to get their first fights on the main roster. It could come down to matchmaking. If they’re matched fairly early on, we could see some of them enjoy successful runs.
