CD Projekt Red has continually defied expectations regarding the lifecycle of its flagship title. Despite previous statements indicating that major content drops had concluded for the dystopian RPG, a surprise broadcast revealed that Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.5 is scheduled to launch tomorrow, Thursday, October 22.

While it does not rival the sheer scale of the Phantom Liberty expansion, this latest patch represents the most substantial set of additions since that major release. The update introduces enough fresh mechanics and narrative content to tempt players back into Night City for yet another playthrough.

Major Additions and New Quests

  • Edgerunners Prequel Quest: Serving as a narrative setup for the second season of the anime, this mission utilizes King’s crew on their final operation. It is a more involved experience than the previous crossover and features original voice actors alongside show-accurate gear rewards.
  • Dedicated Radio Station: A brand-new station has been added, broadcasting music compiled from both the first and second seasons of Edgerunners.
  • Night City Tours: Designed as a narrative-focused, cozy excursion through the metropolis, a virtual guide leads players through deep lore spots. Developers promise hidden secrets tucked away within this tour that will surprise even veterans with over 800 hours of playtime.

Gameplay Enhancements and Quality of Life

Beyond story content, CDPR is introducing heavily requested mechanical overhauls and technical upgrades to enhance the player experience across all available platforms.

  • Cross-Platform Mod Support: For the first time, an in-game panel will allow players on PlayStation 5, Xbox, and even the Nintendo Switch 2 to easily search for and apply modifications.
  • Dual-Wielding Pistols: Players can now dual-wield handguns and revolvers by unlocking specific skills within the Cool perk tree. Weapons can be mixed and matched with distinct perks and effects, complemented by matching photo mode poses.
  • Cosmetic Cyberware Customization: Forty new aesthetic options for cyberware are being introduced, managed by five new vendor characters located near Ripperdocs. Each brand features unique styles and color restrictions, maintaining the lore of manufacturers like Arasaka.
  • Console FOV and DLSS 4.5: Field of view customization finally arrives on consoles, alongside the integration of DLSS 4.5.
  • Collectibles and Cosmetics: Minor Arcana Tarot cards are now scattered across the map to coincide with a physical card release, triggering fresh dialogue from Misty. Additionally, previous Twitch reward sets and four brand-new clothing collections have been distributed among in-game vendors.
