Within the Cyberpunk 2077 fanbase, a running joke has persisted that whenever CD Projekt Red developers claim they are finished updating the title, they are not being entirely truthful. True to form, that running gag has once again been proven accurate.

CDPR officially revealed on Tuesday that Update 2.5—arguably the most substantial patch since the release of the Phantom Liberty expansion—is scheduled to deploy this Thursday, October 22. Ahead of the release, a dedicated broadcast is slated for Wednesday to showcase the new additions.

Join us this Wednesday, October 21st at 5 PM CEST for a closer look at Edgerunners 2 Update (2.5) and some of its new features. We’re talking cyberware customization, a new dual-wielding playstyle, and more! Tune in on Twitch, YouTube or Steam.

Major Additions in Update 2.5

The announcement confirms the long-awaited introduction of dual-wielding. The phrasing points toward a comprehensive dual-wielding playstyle rather than just a basic mechanic for holding multiple pistols or submachine guns. Past updates, such as the complete overhaul of throwing knives into a fully realized build, suggest that developers may introduce an entirely dedicated skill tree.

Furthermore, the inclusion of cyberware customization hints at deeper modifications to the existing framework, which could substantially influence player buildcrafting. Beyond these confirmed features, additional unannounced content is expected to ship with the patch.

Ties to Netflix and Scale of the Patch

The arrival of Update 2.5 coincides directly with the debut of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners season 2 on Netflix, following the immense critical success of the first season. Official promotional artwork features characters David and V, with V utilizing the new dual-wielding mechanic, pointing toward potential narrative additions. While the initial season tie-in featured a compact quest involving David's crew, players can anticipate at least some form of new story content.

Even considering prior patches that brought deeper NPC behaviors, new vehicles, vehicle modifications, and a functioning metro system, the sheer scope of Update 2.5 marks the most significant expansion to the game since Phantom Liberty launched in 2023. While not a massive systemic overhaul on the scale of Update 2.0, it easily surpasses any update seen over the past three years.
