Conor Benn Burned Out After Ryan Garcia, Done at Welterweight
Don’t expect to see Conor Benn in the ring again any time soon. The UK boxing star’s trainer Tony Sims says his fighter is “burnt out.” Benn is seemingly done fighting at 147 pounds after a nasty weight cut and set for a lengthy layoff. Let’s talk boxing.
Sims told Sky Sports , “I think he needs to have a rest from boxing completely at the moment.” He also said a third fight with Eubank will still be there whenever Benn is ready, whether that’s a year or a decade away.

Benn was destroyed by Garcia in the second round when the latter landed a titanic overhand right that scored a knockdown. Benn got to his feet, but Garcia swarmed him with a barrage of punches until the referee stepped in to call a halt to the fight.
Benn had spoken about a “brutal” weight cut during fight week and many including his rival Chris Eubank Jr. felt his performance was at least partially the result of him squeezing himself down to 147 pounds. In any case, that’s probably not going to happen again. When Benn returns to the ring, he’ll probably be fighting at 160 pounds or heavier and trying to recapture the power he once had.
Conor Benn’s Last 10 Fights
Conor Benn’s weigh-ins show how far he drifted from 147 before the Garcia fight.
As Sims mentioned, Benn has done well financially, so there’s always the chance he could walk away from the sport entirely. While it is rare for a fighter of Benn’s age, caliber and popularity to make that decision at this stage of their career, it’s got to be considered whenever a fighter takes a long break from the sport.
Benn is also a warrior whose presence is good for the sport, but at the end of the day, he’ll make the decision he believes is best for him.
