Cambridge , the British audio brand, has announced the launch of its first new wireless earbuds in a couple of years. The Melomania A100 SE brings Spatial Audio by Dolby to Cambridge’s earbud lineup and is built around Hi-Fi-grade engineering.

The A100 SE earbuds deliver Cambridge Audio’s signature sound, characterized by warmth and precision. With the addition of Dolby Audio, Cambridge says the sound has immersive depth with a natural and lifelike audio that sounds as if it’s coming from outside the listener’s head.

The new earbuds have been tuned in-house by Cambridge’s engineers and feature a deep bass with richer mids and clearer highs. To achieve this, Cambridge has used the same Class A/B amplification technology found in its CX and EX series audio systems. The earbuds also use precision-tuned 10mm Neodymium drivers.

A dedicated dual-core 240 MHz Qualcomm Kalimba DSP has been employed to refine the sound processing and reduce distortion levels. The intention is to produce clear and detailed audio with every genre of music. Snapdragon Sound is supported and offers higher bit rates and low-latency connections with compatible devices, making the A100 SE suitable for music listening, gaming or watching movies.

The A100 SE can play back audio at up to 24-bit/96kHz, providing finer textures, wider soundstages and a more natural presentation than lower-rate codecs. You do need a Snapdragon-compatible smartphone or digital music player to access those higher bit rates. There’s also support for aptX Lossless, LDAC, AAC, and SBC audio codecs and the active codec can be checked using the Melomania Connect app.

The Dolby Audio feature on the A100 SE can be turned on using the Melomania Connect app for enhanced listening. The earbuds can be paired with a smartphones, laptops, tablets, TVs or smartwatches. Users can turn on Dolby for a sound that feels less confined and more expansive.

To cut out unwanted noise, the A100 SE earbuds use Adaptive Hybrid ANC to tune out sounds. The earbuds are also rated at IPX5 for water resistance, making them usable in the rain or at a sweaty gym.

Six microphones keep phone calls clear and support for Multipoint connectivity keeps the A100 SE paired with two devices at once for easy switching between a laptop and phone.

A full charge of the earbuds provides up to 39 hours of total battery life including the backup charge in the storage case. The A100 SE can be recharged wirelessly as well as via fast USB-C charging.

Using the Cambridge Melomania Connect app, users can adjust the amount of active noise cancelling used, toggle Dolby Audio on or off, and customize the sound with a 7-band EQ with personal presets. Users can also set up the touch controls on each earbud individually.
