Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is dropping soon and you better believe Infinity Ward and Activision know full well they’re dropping just under a month before Grand Theft Auto 6’s release date. There’s a ton of info, layered gameplay and additional content packed into the game’s initial launch. While no one is really saying the game is being fortified to hopefully withstand the wave of players who’ll likely point their attention to GTA 6 nearly four weeks after the CODMW4 launch, it kind of feels like that’s what we’re seeing. Let’s talk Modern Warfare 4.

Modern Warfare 4 Key Facts

Modern Warfare 4 launches Oct. 23, 2026, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC through Steam, Battle.net and the Xbox app, and Nintendo Switch 2. It will not release on PS4 or Xbox One, and it won’t be on Game Pass at launch.

The Standard Edition costs $69.99, and the Vault Edition is a $30 upgrade at $99.99. Players who own a Call of Duty title released since 2019 can get 10% off the Vault Edition by pre-ordering digitally on the same platform.

A physical Standard Edition is available only on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. On Xbox, the game supports Xbox Play Anywhere, so one purchase covers both console and PC.

Every pre-order includes the Hunter Killer Operator skin for Black Ops 7 and Warzone. The Xbox Store also lists a 25th Anniversary Inner Circuit weapon blueprint and a $5 Xbox gift card with pre-orders there.

The campaign centers on a full-scale North Korean invasion on the Korean Peninsula that threatens to destabilize the world. Players follow Private Park on the ground while Captain Price operates covertly, with missions moving from the Korean Peninsula to New York, Paris and Mumbai.

Multiplayer launches with 12 new 6v6 maps. DMZ returns as the game’s extraction mode.

Modern Warfare 4 Editions

Edition details per Worthplaying and Dot Esports.

If you’re a real COD player, you’ll almost certainly want the Vault Edition. The additional content and early access will be a tough combination to deny. Quite honestly, the visuals, what feels like a compelling campaign story and upscaled multiplayer gameplay mechanics could make this one of the strongest MW entries in a while.

The question is: Will its value be overshadowed by Rockstar’s monster the following month? My experience tells me GTA will rule for about a month before there is a wave of people who claim to be tired of it. That will open up room for other games to reclaim some of their audiences. I’d imagine a live service title like MW would be a game that benefits from what I see as an inevitable cycle.
