Bose has unveiled two new pairs of open-style earbuds designed for people with active lifestyles. The Bose Sport Open Earbuds and the second generation of Bose’s Ultra Open Earbuds expand the brand’s open-ear range. The new open-style earbuds are designed for active pursuits like running, workouts, and hikes. The Sport Open earbuds feature a secure, lightweight fit with a durable, soft silicone design.

The Ultra Open earbuds are the second iteration of Bose’s flagship open-ear model. They retain the signature cuff-shaped design while delivering more immersive audio, longer battery life, clearer phone calls, and an ergonomic design for all-day listening.

“With the original Ultra Open Earbuds, Bose introduced a new way to experience your music without tuning out the world. That meant creating something people could comfortably wear all day, so music could simply be part of life as it happens,” says Raza Haider, president of Bose Premium Consumer Audio.

“Now, we’re building on that foundation, bringing the same focus on comfort and design to sport while making our flagship experience even better. Whether training, working, or moving through the day, these earbuds are designed to feel as good as they sound.”

At the heart of both earbuds is Bose OpenAudio technology, engineered to deliver rich sound within a completely open structure. To achieve this, Bose combined a proprietary transducer with a tightly controlled acoustic architecture to minimize sound leakage. Bose SoundDesign digital signal processing balances clarity with deep bass, letting wearers hear and feel the music without shutting out their surroundings.

Unlike bone conduction earbuds, these new designs do not need to press tightly against the user’s head. Instead, they deliver sound through the air directly near the ear canal. The result is a fuller, more natural sound with a pressure-free fit.

Because both models feature an open-ear design to keep wearers aware of their surroundings, active noise cancellation is omitted. Instead, wearers remain naturally aware of traffic, travel announcements, and ambient conversations while enjoying private audio.

Both pairs also incorporate Bose SpeechClarity, a proprietary AI-enhanced voice-isolation technology. A dedicated microphone and voice pickup unit in each earbud isolate the user’s voice from background noise while preserving natural tone and expression, offering the best call quality across Bose’s open-ear range.

The new Bose Sport Open brings open audio to earbuds engineered for high-intensity movement. Designed for running, fitness workouts, and outdoor activities, the earbuds prioritize stability and durability, featuring tactile physical buttons for precise control with sweaty fingers.

Custom dynamic drivers are tuned for balanced audio, while Auto Volume intelligently adjusts loudness as ambient noise levels fluctuate, keeping playlists consistent whether passing through a quiet neighborhood or a noisy intersection.

A C-arm cuff wrapped in soft matte silicone secures the earbuds comfortably around the ear. With a slim, lightweight profile, they remain stable during vigorous movement, including cartwheels and sprint training.

Rated IP54 for sweat, splash, and dust resistance, the durable silicone casing can easily be wiped clean of dirt and grime. The accompanying upright charging case supports wireless charging and features a translucent, textured lid for enhanced grip. The Sport Open earbuds offer up to 7 hours of playback on a single charge, with an additional 22 hours provided by the charging case.

The second-generation Ultra Open Earbuds refine the recognizable cuff silhouette with enhanced audio performance, improved call quality, longer battery life, and expanded software features.

A redesigned driver delivers deeper bass and higher maximum volume than the original model. SpeechClarity maintains sharp phone calls, while Auto Volume adjusts playback seamlessly based on ambient noise.

This generation introduces Cinema Mode, powered by Bose TrueSpatial technology, which broadens the soundstage for movies, videos, and podcasts while keeping speech crisp and centered.

Visual updates include a refined metallic cap with a beveled finish. The redesigned charging case now stands upright and supports wireless charging. Battery life is expanded to 9 hours of playback on a single charge, plus an additional 19.5 hours from the case. The earbuds also support Snapdragon Sound with the aptX Adaptive codec for high-resolution, low-latency audio on compatible Android devices.

Both models support Bluetooth 5.4, Multipoint connectivity (up to two devices simultaneously), SBC and AAC codecs, and Google Fast Pair.

Customizable touch/button shortcuts can be assigned to Spotify Tap, native voice assistant access, or cycling through Bose Immersive Audio modes (on the Ultra Open model). Following the launch, Bose will issue a firmware update adding Google Find My Device support, Alexa+, plus a dedicated shortcut for Apple Music.

Using the Bose App, users can also fine-tune their audio experience using a three-band EQ, toggle Auto Volume, configure shortcuts, manage Bluetooth connections, and install firmware updates.
