The Toronto Blue Jays have gotten an unexpected boost from Josh Smith since acquiring him from the Texas Rangers, turning what initially looked like a depth move into one of the more productive additions to their lineup.

“Josh Smith, acquired from the Texas Rangers with minor-league pitcher John Stephan for left-hander Adam Macko, didn’t come to the team with a lot of fanfare, but since his arrival he’s the Jays’ leader in OPS, slugging percentage, walk rate and the fancy new stats of weighted on-base average and weighted runs created plus,” Mike Wilner noted for the Toronto Star .

Smith has quickly become an important part of Toronto’s push down the stretch, but his transition to Canada has been a little more complicated for his family. While the versatile infielder has settled in on the field, his wife, Claire Couv Smith, has discovered that leaving Texas comes with at least one particularly frustrating drawback.

After spending almost all of his career in the U.S., Smith’s move to Toronto represented a major change beyond simply putting on a different uniform.

“Having grown up and played professional baseball in the southern U.S. for pretty much his entire career, picking up and moving to another country was bound to come with growing pains,” Marley Dickinson noted for BlogTO . ““Though Smith has embraced the new opportunity during his four weeks in Toronto, hitting five home runs and driving in seven runs across 21 games with his new club — his wife, Claire Couv Smith, on the other hand, is still missing plenty of things about the U.S.”

Shortly after moving with Smith to Canada, Couv Smith detailed the single biggest struggle she’s having with adjusting to life in the new country to her 355,000 Instagram followers.

“The one thing I can’t get over with Canada is that you cannot get Peacock there — which is where all the reality TV is,” she said in a recent post .

Peacock, the streaming service, carries many of the reality shows enjoyed by U.S. audiences, evidently including Couv Smith. Following her complaint, several online commenters encouraged her to download a VPN, or virtual private network, that would help her circumvent international restrictions on streaming services.

But she noted on social media that she prepared for the trip by downloading episodes of her favorite shows. And perhaps she will find a more permanent solution moving forward.
