Massage, foam rolling, percussion devices, and manual therapies may temporarily reduce discomfort and improve range of motion, but they work best alongside healthy daily habits—not as standalone solutions.

Gainsley offers a similar perspective on the lymphatic system.

"Your lymphatic system already knows how to detox your body," she says. "What it needs is movement, hydration, deep breathing, and healthy habits that support the way it's designed to function."

She says manual lymphatic drainage can be helpful for certain medical conditions and may reduce swelling in appropriate situations, but cautions against claims that frequent detoxes are necessary.
