BenQ has introduced the new iScreenBar , the first monitor light bar designed specifically for the latest Apple iMacs. Made to match the look and feel of Apple’s all-in-one desktop, the iScreenBar is designed to provide comfortable and glare-free desk lighting while blending in with the sleek aesthetic of the iMac. Alongside it, BenQ has also announced ScreenBar Max, a new desk lamp designed for dual-monitor workspaces.

Most monitor light bars on the market are designed to fit a wide range of computer monitors. Until now, no one has made a bespoke light bar for the iMac. This is a deliberate move by BenQ to expand its market share by targeting lighting devices specifically for iMac users.

iMac users choose an iMac because it’s a sleek all-in-one computer that looks great. Many Apple customers invest in the brand because it prioritises aesthetics. The new iScreenBar was built with the iMac’s aesthetics in mind, driven by user feedback.

Engineered for the iMac’s distinctive look, the iScreenBar pairs BenQ’s professional-grade monitor lighting with a design that belongs on the same desk. The light features a unibody aluminum construction with a glass touch panel, echoing the materials and finish of the iMac itself.

A custom magnetic clamp mounts the lamp to the back of the iMac, and a magnetic cable clip keeps the wiring out of sight. The design doesn’t block the iMac’s built-in camera, microphone, or rear logo. The iScreenBar is compatible with iMac models from 2021 and later.

Other features include ASYM-Light asymmetric optics that illuminate the desk without shining directly on the screen or the user’s eyes. This reduces glare while preserving accurate color and providing balanced illumination across a 500-lux range over an area of 85 x 50 cm.

The iScreenBar can also turn on automatically by detecting the user’s presence. The light can automatically turn on when the iMac wakes or boots up, and it dims itself to maintain a comfortable level of brightness as ambient room light changes.

To control the iScreenBar, a dedicated macOS app allows users to fine-tune brightness, color temperature, and lighting modes. Settings can be saved as custom profiles triggered by specific apps—for example, a lower brightness setting for Photoshop or Final Cut Pro, and a brighter setting for web browsing.

Another innovative feature is Video Mode, which reduces bright spots on a person’s face for a clearer, more well-balanced picture when the iMac’s built-in webcam is active. Power for the iScreenBar is drawn from the host iMac via a USB-C cable, which also enables macOS app control and automatic detection of webcam use.

There is also a screen-reading mode that automatically adjusts brightness based on room lighting while shifting the color temperature to 4000K. Meanwhile, a soft rear light balances screen brightness with the surroundings to improve visual comfort and workspace atmosphere. Utilizing the same technology as BenQ’s flagship ScreenBar Halo 2, brightness, color temperature, saved settings, and smart features like presence detection and auto-dimming are just a tap away.
