Apple Documents Confirm Powerful iPhone 18 Pro Specs
Apple may not launch the iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max until September, but regulatory filings offer more details about its next-generation smartphones. Documents submitted to the Chinese certification authority include details on the battery capacity of the upcoming iPhones. While the models are not specifically named, the timescales and details align with supply chain details and the wider community expectations.
What Are The iPhone 18 Pro Battery Specifications?
Apple’s iPhone 18 Pro battery architecture offers more capacity in US and Chinese models, a strategic increase necessitated by the heightened power draw of local on-device AI processing via the A20 chipset .
Two capacities are listed for the iPhone 18 Pro, one for a Chinese model and one for a US-bound model. The former is rated for 4.065 mAh, and the latter 4,288 mAh. That is a rise of 77 mAh and 36 mAh from the iPhone 17 Pro’s listed specifications. The iPhone 18 Pro has a slightly higher increase. The iPhone 18 Pro Max will be lifted up by 568 mAh to 5,391 mAh in China, and by 479 mAh to 5,567 mAh in the US.
The larger US battery is the result of several factors across the regions. The use of an eSIM in US compared to a physical SIM in China frees up some internal space, which Apple uses to increase battery capacity. The different tests conducted by regulators will also lead to discrepancies. There will also be small variances in each individual component. Nevertheless, Apple has lifted the battery capacity of the next Pro models.
What WIll Be The iPhone 18 Pro's Battery Life?
The iPhone 18 Pro battery life relies on an aggressive optimization loop between the A20 Apple Silicon and iOS 27 to offset the demand required for persistent Apple Intelligence background tasks .
Endurance on the iPhone is determined by a mix of battery life, software optimisations, and increased hardware demands, which change every year. iOS 27 will be more efficient than iOS 26, but the demands of the A20 Apple Silicon chipset, especially the intense pressure placed on the iPhone for local processing of artificial intelligence routines, will all have an impact.
Apple has traditionally biased its optimisation process towards more power than more endurance. While each iPhone generation builds on and improves the previous one, the excess power enables more background activity. With the improvements to Apple Intelligence and Siri AI in iOS 27 , this will be an important consideration in balancing power, performance and endurance.
The Battery Option iPhone 18 Pro Ignores
Apple continues to favor mature, low-risk lithium-ion polymer chemistry for the iPhone 18 Pro, deliberately bypassing the aggressive, high-density silicon-carbon batteries seen in competing Android flagships .
Crucially, the higher specifications suggest year-on-year improvements to the lithium-ion polymer batteries used in previous iPhone models. Android manufacturers are leaning heavily on silicon-carbon technology , which typically offers higher capacity and faster charging in the same volume. Smartphones from the likes of Oppo and Honor are demonstrating roughly 50 percent more capacity in their flagship models in 2026 compared to 2025 models using the older Li-ion batteries.
Not every manufacturer has made the move. Samsung is sticking with the older, better-understood chemistry across its entire portfolio, including the flagship Galaxy S models. Apple is following the same cautious path with the iPhone 18 Pro.
