A Ton Of New ‘GTA 6’ Details Drop After The Netflix Showcase
The last week of GTA 6 marketing has been unorthodox to say the least: a nearly half-hour special on Netflix of pure gameplay; an in-depth look at Rockstar and the game from The New York Times ; and an extensive piece from Dazed Magazine .
It’s all added up to more information than we’ve had before, but this week, we suddenly have more granular details from a new source that is not a major outlet, nor Rockstar.
A very small handful of YouTubers were invited to see a hands-off preview of GTA 6, alongside more traditional outlets. Those creators are now going into much more detail about the systems of the game than we’ve ever seen. Two of them are Italian creator MikeShowSha and American creator TGG , who have now been dumping out detail after detail.
Now, we have a long list of details about aspects of GTA 6 that we’re learning for the first time. Among the highlights, here’s MikeShowSha:
- NPC appearance changes granularly, aka athletic gear-wearing NPCs near a gym, more casual clothes near Jason and Lucia’s homes. In the gym, an NPC insulted Lucia’s appearance. Lucia promptly knocked her out, and the woman’s boyfriend ran away.
- NPCs can be interacted with in a number of ways, including greeting them or provoking them. Interaction stood out more than the density of NPCs on the map.
- Characters in your social feed can end up being encountered in real life.
- In the preview, Jason and Lucia and maximum out-of-shape-ness and maximum muscle were shown. (We have not seen photos or video of this.)
- The police crashes we saw in the gameplay video are not scripted on-rails moments. The demo showed multiple ways a chase sequence could play out with varying crashes and takedowns.
- When you die, you spawn at a hospital; when you’re arrested, you spawn outside jail. You lose the weapons on you, but not the ones you store in your vehicle trunk.
- There is a “fog of war” on the map that encourages you to explore once free roam mode opens up after the beginning of the game.
- Focus mode will show you what doors you can go through, and while there are a ton of buildings to go into, you can’t go through literally every door in the game.
And from TGG, more details about combat itself:
- There is now more free aim than lock-on aim, though this can be adjusted through settings.
- Weapons have more recoil and impact than in past GTA games.
- Jason and Lucia can give each other weapons by literally handing them to each other.
- You can store guns in any vehicle, but only your personal vehicle will have your full loadout. Stolen vehicles are not permanent.
- All enemies, not just police as previously revealed, do not appear on your minimap during combat.
- There are different reactions from NPCs depending on how you’re handling a weapon. You can have a long gun on your back and be fine, but if you’re holding it (not even aiming it) that will cause a change in behavior and even cause police to issue warnings. You can always have two concealed handguns on you. You can have a maximum of two long guns, meaning one will always have to be on your back while you hold the other.
- Red Dead -style killcams can be disabled. Red Dead shoulder switch aiming is back.
There are plenty more circulating, but those were the highlights I found the most interesting, in addition to some others reported yesterday, like no longer needing to mash X to run, with that mapped to L3 instead. There is going to be a whole lot to discover, given that all of this is just through short, hands-off previews.
