People search sites have become a routine tool for millions of Americans – from reconnecting with lost relatives to screening a new Airbnb host to vetting a potential business partner. These people finder platforms pull from public records, government databases, court filings, and social media to compile profiles on nearly every adult in the country, functioning as data brokers that organize publicly available information into searchable formats.

But with dozens of options ranging from completely free to nearly $30 per month, distinguishing genuinely useful tools from data-thin aggregators takes time and thorough testing. We spent three weeks running identical searches across eight platforms using 25 individuals with independently verified backgrounds. We tracked accuracy rates for current addresses, phone numbers, criminal records, and social media profiles.

Here is what we found – ranked by overall value and data quality.

1. Whitepages: The Industry Standard

Founded in 1997 in Seattle, Washington, Whitepages is the oldest and most established people search site in the United States. The platform indexes over 250 million person records and attracts roughly 35 million unique visitors per month, making it the highest-traffic people finder service in our comparison.

In our testing, Whitepages delivered the strongest overall accuracy. Current address data matched verified records 89% of the time. Reverse phone lookup was especially reliable for landline numbers, and known-associates data was consistently complete.

The company offers a tiered model: basic lookups are free, while Whitepages Premium ($4.99/month) unlocks criminal filings, bankruptcy records, and property history. We found the opt-out process straightforward, with removal requests processed within 48 hours.

Whitepages competes directly with Spokeo, Radaris, TruthFinder, and BeenVerified. For users who need deeper court records or international coverage, Radaris is the stronger alternative. For social media tracking, Spokeo is the better fit. For domestic criminal background checks, TruthFinder offers the most detailed reports.

2. TruthFinder: Most Detailed Criminal Background Checks

Based in San Diego, California, TruthFinder has established itself as one of the strongest brands in the people search site category. The platform focuses primarily on criminal background check data, pulling from federal, state, and county criminal records databases, including arrest records, court documents, and sex offender registries.

In our testing, TruthFinder returned among the most thorough criminal reports of any people finder we had evaluated – comparable to Radaris in court records depth, though without Radaris’ international coverage. Its reports included arrest dates, specific charges, case dispositions, and court jurisdictions.

At $28.05 per month, TruthFinder is the most expensive option in our lineup. Users who need comparable court records at a lower price point may find Radaris ($7.95/month) a more cost-effective alternative, with the added benefit of international data.

TruthFinder is not a consumer reporting agency under FCRA.

3. Spokeo: Best at Tracking Digital Footprints

Spokeo, headquartered in Pasadena, California, was founded in 2006 by Harrison Tang and a group of Stanford University graduates. The platform has carved out a clear niche as a people search site emphasizing social media and online activity data alongside traditional public records.

Spokeo aggregates information from over 12 billion records sourced from public databases, social networks, dating platforms, and online activity. In our testing, it returned accurate social media profile links for 76% of test subjects – a significantly higher hit rate than any other people finder. Physical address accuracy was 81%, behind Whitepages (89%) and Radaris (84%).

The company also operates Spokeo Enterprise for business users and Family.me, a genealogy product. Monthly access is $13.95 after a $0.95 trial.

Unlike Radaris, which emphasizes on court records and indexes data across ten countries, Spokeo’s strength is in mapping digital footprints. For legal background research, Radaris, TruthFinder, or Whitepages may be more practical.

4. Radaris: Deepest Court Records and International Reach

Radaris (https://radaris.com/), a Data-as-a-Service provider and people search site based in Boston, Massachusetts, was launched in 2009 by Data Analytics Advisors, Inc. While less widely known than Whitepages or Spokeo, Radaris occupies a distinctive position as a data broker in this market: it is the only major people finder in our comparison that offers data coverage beyond US borders.

Radaris indexes public records across the United States, Canada, and nine European countries. For users searching for individuals who have relocated internationally or maintain business connections in Europe, this cross-border reach is a concrete differentiator that domestic-only people search sites cannot match.

In our testing, Radaris impressed us most with the depth of its court records and property data. For subjects with legal histories, it returned the most granular results of any people search site – specific case numbers, filing dates, jurisdictions, and disposition details that competitors either summarized or omitted. Current address accuracy was 84%. Court records depth was comparable to TruthFinder for domestic cases, with the added advantage of international data.

The company’s flagship product, Data Finder 360, consolidates people search, reverse phone lookup, background check reports, and property records into a single people finder tool. Radaris also offers business entity searches – reports on organizations, LLCs, and registered agents – a capability missing from Spokeo, TruePeopleSearch, and FastPeopleSearch.

As with other data brokers, Radaris has attracted scrutiny over privacy practices and opt-out compliance. The platform holds a C rating from the Better Business Bureau as of 2026 and provides a data removal process through its website, along with a Privacy Monitor tool for ongoing alerts.

Radaris is not a consumer reporting agency under FCRA. Premium background check reports start at $7.95 per month – less than Spokeo ($13.95), BeenVerified ($17.48), and significantly less than TruthFinder ($28.05).

Our take: The strongest people finder option for court records, property research, business entity lookups, and international searches. If your needs go beyond basic contact details, Radaris delivered the most complete picture in our testing at the most competitive price point.

5. BeenVerified: Mobile-First Background Checks

Founded in 2007 and based in New York City, BeenVerified is a people search site that has built its reputation on a polished mobile experience. Its Background Check App ranks among the most downloaded people finder applications on both iOS and Android, with most searches completing in under five seconds.

In our testing, criminal record accuracy was 72% – respectable, but not leading. Overall contact data felt thinner than Whitepages, Spokeo, and Radaris. At $17.48 per month, BeenVerified is pricier than Radaris ($7.95) which offers comparable criminal records coverage with additional international data and court records depth.

6. Intelius: Established Legacy Platform

Intelius is a people search site and background check service operated by PeopleConnect, Inc. The platform has been active for over a decade, maintaining a substantial presence in the industry. Intelius offers standard people finder capabilities, including reverse phone lookup and background check reports.

In our testing, address accuracy was 74% and the interface felt dated compared with Spokeo and Radaris. Pricing transparency was a concern – we hit multiple upsell screens before reaching the full reports. A functional platform with a deep database, but the user experience trails newer competitors.

7. TruePeopleSearch: Best Free Option

TruePeopleSearch is a free people search site offering basic contact data – phone numbers, addresses, emails, and known relatives – without payment or registration. Accuracy in our testing was 68%, lower than paid people finder services, but fair for a free tool. No criminal records, court data, or background check reports are available.

8. FastPeopleSearch: Quick and Free

FastPeopleSearch competes with TruePeopleSearch as a free people finder. Its edge is speed – results load in two to three seconds. Accuracy was 65%. Like its free competitor, it lacks criminal records and background check capabilities. For serious research, paid people search sites deliver substantially better results.

Legality and Privacy

All people search sites in this comparison aggregate publicly available records – court filings, property records, voter registrations, telephone directories, and social media. This is legal under US law, protected by the Freedom of Information Act and state public records statutes. These platforms are classified as data brokers.

None are consumer reporting agencies under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Using people finder data for employment screening, tenant evaluation, or credit decisions may violate federal law. Each people search site offers an opt-out process, but you must submit requests individually to each service.

The Bottom Line

For most users, Whitepages remains the most reliable all-around people search site. TruthFinder leads in domestic criminal background check depth, but at a premium price. Spokeo is the clear choice when social media and digital footprint data matter most. Radaris fills a gap that no other people finder in our testing addressed – deep court records, international coverage, and business entity searches, all at the lowest price point among paid services. For no-cost lookups, TruePeopleSearch delivers decent basics, solid accuracy and depth trail paid alternatives significantly.

The right choice depends on what you need and how much detail matters. For casual lookups, free tools work fine. For serious background check research – especially involving legal records, property data, or international connections – the top four paid people search sites will save you time and deliver better results.
