5 LinkedIn Content Mistakes Destroying Your Reach in 2026
LinkedIn spent 2026 turning the shortcuts you were taught into penalties. Post the way you did last year and fewer people see your content. The old habits cost you now.
Get this right and your posts reach the buyers who stopped seeing them. What needs to change comes down to your links, your AI content, and the way you comment.
I grew my LinkedIn to 57,000 by paying attention to every update LinkedIn made. Here are the five moves it started punishing this year, what each one costs you, and the fix for each.
What the LinkedIn algorithm punishes in 2026: five moves that cost you reach
Stop sending people off the platform
LinkedIn wants readers to stay where they are. Every outbound link tells the algorithm you are taking people away, so it shows your post to around 60% fewer people . Putting the link in the first comment costs you the same reach now.
Keep the link out of the post. Write something worth reading on its own, then send the link by direct message to the people who comment or ask for it. You keep your reach and the people who wanted the link still get it.
Stop running an engagement pod
The group that liked and commented on everything you posted is now a problem. LinkedIn's new system, 360Brew, is built to detect pods and make them "entirely ineffective" , and it cuts the reach of every post caught in one.
Pods were always a tax you paid to look bigger than you were. Close yours down. Spend that same time leaving real comments on the posts your buyers already read.
Stop posting like a machine wrote it
Generic AI posts do not get flagged so much as ignored. A post built from a prompt reads as generic, people scroll past it in under three seconds , and that dead dwell time tells LinkedIn to stop showing it.
Publish the posts only you can write. The client you fired, the number on the deal that fell through, the reason you raised your prices. None of that came from a prompt.
Stop baiting people for comments
“Comment YES if you agree.” “Repost this if it helped.” LinkedIn now treats those lines as manipulation and actively suppresses posts that use them. The line that used to help now costs you reach.
Earn the comment instead of asking for it. Say something a reader has a reason to answer, state an opinion they can push back on, or ask one real question you actually want answered.
Stop chasing likes over comments
A like is close to worthless now. A save drives around five times the reach of a like , and how long someone stays on your post now decides who else sees it.
Write posts people stop to read and answer. Put enough text on the screen to hold them, give them an idea they have to think about, and add detail underneath for the ones who want more.
How to beat the LinkedIn algorithm in 2026 and win your reach back
LinkedIn now rewards the people who show up as themselves and post like humans. Keep readers on the page, drop the pods, write like yourself, earn engagement instead of asking for it, and give people something worth a comment. Do that and the algorithm stops working against you and starts working for you. The people who adapt this year get ahead while everyone else waits for the old tricks to work again. They are not going to.
