Slow Horses season 6 will hit Apple TV later tonight, continuing the beloved spy series that seems like it will air on the service forever. Now, Apple has announced that the show has been renewed for season 8. Yes, you read that right, season 8, not season 7. Slow Horses is a unicorn in this industry, and that does not seem to be letting up any time soon.

Slow Horses season 7 is old news. It was renewed back in July 2025, over a year before season 6 even arrived today. It began production in October 2025 and wrapped filming a long time ago. Now, of course, we can expect a similar schedule for season 8. And I mean, at this point, probably a season 9 renewal two years early.

Whenever we talk about the annoyingly long gaps between seasons of shows in the modern streaming era, which often range from two to three years, Slow Horses is almost always brought up as a counterpoint. This schedule is clockwork:

  • Season 1: April 1, 2022
  • Season 2: December 2, 2022
  • Season 3: December 1, 2023
  • Season 4: September 4, 2024
  • Season 5: September 24, 2025
  • Season 6: September 16, 2026

Nearly all of these are a year apart, with some even being less than that. Obviously, a key here is these extremely early renewals and filming dates. It also helps that the show is six episodes a year, and other series like The Pitt are doing yearly with 15. The cast also seems on board for as long as their characters stay alive, especially Gary Oldman, who has said he’d do this show the rest of his life . Its co-lead, Jack Lowden, has recently been rumored to be a different kind of spy as a potential pick for the new James Bond. Though I doubt even that would disrupt the Slow Horses schedule, if he did land the part.

It may not surprise you to learn that Slow Horses is Apple TV’s longest-running show. For All Mankind will tie it with a sixth and final season, but as we now know, Slow Horses has two more seasons coming after its own season 6, airing now. As a cherry, last night Slow Horses won an Emmy for Best Directing in a Drama Series for the season 5 episode, Scars .

Slow Horses has tied a TV record by having the most seasons with the highest Rotten Tomatoes score total alongside Better Call Saul , both with 98%s. Judge for yourself if it deserves that tonight during the season 6 premiere.
