The whiskey is distinguished by an unusually high proportion of pot still spirit, giving it a richer, spicier profile than many Irish blends. The components are matured primarily in ex-bourbon American oak barrels, creating a whiskey that balances vibrant fruit with the signature spicy character of traditional Irish pot still whiskey.

The whiskey features aromas of honey, ripe apple, pear and vanilla, complemented by toasted oak, citrus peel and a touch of cinnamon. It’s creamy and medium-bodied on the palate, presenting layers of sweet malt, baked orchard fruits, caramel, nutmeg and cracked black pepper. The pot still component contributes a lively peppery spice throughout. The finish is long, warming and well-balanced, with lingering notes of vanilla, seasoned oak and baking spices.

Powers Irish Rye represents an innovative addition to the Irish whiskey category, incorporating Irish-grown rye into the mash bill alongside malted and unmalted barley. Triple distilled before maturation in a combination of virgin American oak, first-fill bourbon barrels, and refill American oak casks, the whiskey combines the smoothness of Irish distillation with the distinctive spice and herbal character associated with rye whiskey.

The whiskey features aromas of freshly baked rye bread, vanilla, honey, seasoned oak, and orange zest along with subtle floral notes. The palate is silky and richly textured, showcasing flavors of caramel, toasted cereals, ripe pear, clove, cinnamon, and cracked pepper. The rye component delivers an elegant herbal spice rather than overt intensity. The finish is clean, persistent, sweet and gently warming, with lingering notes of rye spices, vanilla, toasted oak and a delicate peppery lift.

These Master medal winners demonstrate both the heritage and the continuing evolution of Irish blended whiskey. Powers Gold Label remains a yardstick for traditional Irish blending, with its high pot-still content delivering a richer, more characterful profile than many contemporary blends.
