In my “basic Palworld tips” series, I’m going to talk about something that really changed the game for me as I have attempted to extend my bases and increase my Pal’s production output. The problem? Across three bases, using increasingly food-demanding Pals, there is a slight problem of…potentially starving to death.

The early, early game solution is…berries. Lots of berries, baked berries, and, occasionally, throwing some wheat in there for good measure. This is viable, of course, but you are going to start recruiting 7-9 food-eating Pals who will start moving through those like a lawnmower. Soon, you’re not going to be able to keep up with demand.

Enter salads. They’ll get you healthy in real life, and the same is true in Palworld . You only have to get to level 25 for the two ingredients, tomatoes and lettuce, and they should replace your berry farms immediately. Why salads?

  • Easy to make. Just two of those tomatoes and two lettuce.
  • Restore Sanity. Salad restores 11 Sanity while baked berries only restore 1. Normal berries, because I know your lazy self doesn’t always cook them, restore zero Sanity.
  • Nutrition. Salad has roughly 4x the nutrition of baked berries and more than 5x of normal berries, so more full, longer.
  • Work speed. Salad also has the additional benefit of temporarily increasing work speed after being eaten. Berries certainly do not do that.
  • Last longer. I don’t recall the exact speed of expiration, but I believe it’s at least an hour, and certainly longer than berries.
  • Farms. Easy to set up. I have two patches for both tomatoes and lettuce, then two water/grass pals with decent-to-good planting, harvesting, and/or watering. That is enough to not just sustain but probably provide and overload, depending. I often check my stove and I have the potential to make a thousand at a time. And I have two of these kitchens. I should probably cut one honestly.
  • Cook speed. Time to cook is not bad with an electric kitchen and a decent enough fire Pal. I usually just have one of mine stand there cooking while I’m running around my base, then go deposit hundreds across my three different bases. And, of course, keeping some for myself, which will last ages.

They don’t last forever . A hungry, big team will chew through those hundreds, so you will need to check back and deposit more. But mostly? It will be smooth sailing in terms of both hunger and sanity because of salads.

There are probably even better foods to make later in the game, but from relatively early game onward (I’m nearly level 80 now) this is going to take you far.
