Is ChatGPT Down? Users Reported Widespread AI Chatbot Outages
Tens of thousands of users of ChatGPT, Claude, Grok, Gemini and other artificial intelligence chatbots reported outages Thursday morning that seemed to largely resolve by the early afternoon.
Downdetector , a website that tracks user complaints, traced a surge in outage reports starting just after 9 a.m. impacting most major chatbots.
OpenAI, the maker of ChatGPT, had the highest level of outage reports, with more than 37,000 reports filed by users as of about 11 a.m. EDT.
That number had dropped below 1,500 as of noon EDT, about an hour after the company said it had deployed fixes to 15 affected ChatGPT components and four Codex components.
Claude outages peaked at 1,324 just before 11 a.m. EDT, Grok outages peaked at around 10 a.m. EDT with 1,365 reports and about 500 people reported problems with Gemini as of 11 a.m. EDT.
Reports about those three AI chatbots had fallen to below 600 each as of noon EDT.
