Apple iOS 26.5 is the next update coming to the iPhone — unless there’s a surprise bug-fix release beforehand — and Apple has just confirmed when it’s coming. Here’s what’s on its way and when.

iOS 26.5 Release Date: The Quiet Reveal

Although it may not have been done accidentally, the quiet way it’s been revealed indicates Apple might have preferred it to have gone unnoticed.

There was a support document on the Apple Developer website on Monday, April 27, to announce that developers could charge for annual subscriptions on a monthly basis (full details here ).

In the notes at the end of the announcement was the release information.

“With the exception of the United States and Singapore, monthly subscriptions with a 12-month commitment will be available worldwide to people on iOS 26.4, iPadOS 26.4, macOS Tahoe 26.4, tvOS 26.4, and visionOS 26.4, or later, with the release of iOS 26.5, iPadOS 26.5, macOS Tahoe 26.5, tvOS 26.5, and visionOS 26.5 in May,” Apple said.

When In May Will iOS 26.5 Launch?

The last word is the giveaway: iOS 26.5 is coming next month. That’s certainly in line with what was expected, and it fits with the release schedule of the beta versions so far.

On Monday, April 27, Apple released the fourth developer beta of iOS 26.5, one week after the third beta. The latest public beta is expected to land any minute, most likely at 10 a.m. Pacific Tuesday, April 28.

This means that in all likelihood next Monday, May 4, will see the Release Candidate of iOS 26.5,.

The Likely Release Window

If that happens, the general release will follow next, which I would expect to be on Monday, May 11 or Tuesday, May 12. That also fits with the schedule Apple used last year, when iOS 18.5 was released on Monday, May 12 2025.

This update is set to be a significant one, not only for the new subscription billing model mentioned above, but also for final refinements to iOS 26 before Apple pivots to the iOS 27 announcement at WWDC in June.
