While we may be waiting another two years or so for House of the Dragon season 4 to conclude the series, HBO wanted A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms to air more frequently. Yearly, in fact. A new update on the season 2 release date suggests it may hit that mark, or at least come very close.

HBO Max CEO Casey Bloys was asked by Deadline about other spinoffs from the Game of Thrones universe, which he shot down, saying, “You mean in addition to the Emmy-nominated Knight of the Seven Kingdoms , which is coming out in the first half of ’27? And House of the Dragon ? Besides that, no, nothing else.”

A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms took home one Emmy out of nine nominations for stunt performance, and it gave us arguably the best moment of the night:

But yes, the headline there is that the plan is the first half of 2027. Technically, that could be June 2027, when the show ended in February 2026. That would be closer to a year and a half. But sure, it could be January or February, putting it at that year mark.

The goal here is that because A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms has fewer blockbuster effects than other Game of Thrones shows (no dragons, for one) and has just six, half-hour episodes, it should be quicker to produce, and given the source material and glowing endorsement from George R.R. Martin, it could go on indefinitely.

While Bloys says there aren’t plans to expand the Game of Thrones universe past the two existing shows, that’s a little bit hard to believe, given that House of the Dragon has a fixed ending and Game of Thrones is a property that HBO Max will never want to fully shelve. The next Game of Thrones project is an Aegon’s Conquest movie that will be released in theaters. For shows, however, there are still only insider reports of series like Ten Thousand Ships, Nine Voyages and The Golden Empire being bounced around. Other potential past series, like Flea Bottom and a Jon Snow follow-up series, have died.

It’s great that A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is going to be a fixture for this universe. The show is amazing with perfect casting for its two leads, and I think most Thrones fans would be content to watch it forever. And if they can do so yearly? All the better.
